True Colours

True Colours

“True Colours” is a song written by American songwriters Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly.

It was the first single released from American singer Cyndi Lauper’s second album.

It was the only original song on the album that Lauper did not help write, but she sang it as she did and it suits her so well.

True Colours was one of my favourite songs back in 1986 and I still love listening to it.

All those years ago in the late 80’s I would sing along with Lauper to the radio not really understanding the what the words meant entirely, but today when I quietly recite the lyric’s, they seem so much more meaningful.

The chorus speaks about allowing your true colours to shine through, don’t be afraid to let the world see who you are, love the authenticity of who you are because if you give yourself permission to shine, the whole world gets to benefit from your rainbow.

Living in a world that can make us crazy sometimes, it’s hard to smile and be happy but if you are not afraid of your true colours then there is nothing to be afraid of at all.

When you have taken all you can bear and the darkness inside of you makes you feel so small, call up someone who you know who will be there, the one who sees your true colours, because that is why they love you.

True colours are beautiful, and it is our Soul work here in this life experience that brings out what is meant to shine in us, no matter what.

In a world full of people we can get lost in the stampede, but if you are able to stand back away from the crowd and remind yourself of who you are, remember your true colours are beautiful just like a rainbow.

Don’t ever be afraid to just be ‘you’, no matter what the obstacles are, no matter what other people perceive of you, say about you or even how they look at you, pull back and remember the courage it has taken to find your own true colours.

In a world full of people who are always looking for a way to dim your light you may lose sight of it all, but what no-one can take from you are your true colours.

Don’t be unhappy, smile and be the freedom you persistently have been unyielding for, for yourself.

Much love and devotion
